Information from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan
As a result of preventive measures against infectious diseases carried out in Azerbaijan since 2014, no local cases of measles and rubella infection have been registered. As a result, the World Health Organization included our country in the list of countries where these infections have been eliminated.
Since the beginning of 2023, the spread of measles has been observed in the European Region, as well as in neighboring countries - Turkey, the Russian Federation, Iran, Kazakhstan and Georgia. In this regard, over the past year, rare cases of measles infection have been observed in Azerbaijan from people arriving from other countries, mainly among unvaccinated children.
It is known that prevention of any infectious disease is more effective than infection and further treatment for it. For this reason, according to the current “Preventive Vaccination Calendar” in the country, children are vaccinated against a number of infectious diseases, including measles.
In order to protect the health of children and prevent cases of measles infection, it is recommended that children who are not vaccinated for any reason be vaccinated with the MMR vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella. Vaccination is carried out in children's clinics at the place of residence.
